Traditional folk and church music of the Mokranjac's native region

On the occasion of celebration of the 100th anniversary of the death of Stevan St. Mokranjac, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, the Mokranjac Foundation is working on the realization of the projectTraditional folk and church music of the Mokranjac's native region. This projectaims to study the traditional folk and church music of Negotinska Krajina, Kljuc and surrounding areas as a broader area of the Mokranjac’s native region.

 

The project is being implemented from June to December 2014 through field research of the mentioned areas as a primary source, and audio archives and relevant ethno musicological literature. Different methods will be applied for the realization of the project such as, interviews, transcriptions and musical analysis of collected poems including the scientific methods rounding off the project as a musical study but also as a study that will devote considerable attention to the cultural context in which these melodies emerged and lived.

 

Finalization of the project will bring issuance of one or more collections of folk melodies, as well as of the corresponding thematic collection. The end of the project will be celebrated with a series of lectures and panel discussions on the topics related to the project held by its participants.
